Kitchen Renovations
Kitchen Renovations can be a big disruption to the whole family when it comes to the day to day use of the Kitchen if you're living in the Home. If you have just bought your home with the intensions of renovating the Kitchen see if it's possible to do it before you move in. Sometimes this is impossible due to you've just spent all your money getting into the home & you will do it when you can afford it or your just impatient to get into your new home. I don't blame you as you want to stop paying rent as quickly as possible & now you have a mortgage to pay.
This being the case you're already in your home & your ready to do your Kitchen Renovations or are you?
- Do some planning yourself before you start!
- How far are you going to go?
- Is everything going to be replaced?
- Are you doing it yourself with a Flat Pack or getting in the Professionals?
- Are you designing it or letting the Pro's do it for you?
- Get some graph paper & measure & draw your kitchen so you have some idea on what you want & how you want it set out,
- Go & look at New Homes to get new fresh kitchen ideas.
- Is the new kitchen sink going back in the same spot as the old one?
- Why not, look at the cost of moving it before you start!
- Have you got a Dishwasher or putting one in?
- The stove, can you relocate it as it's not a problem as you will more than likely have an Electrician there anyway.
- What are you going to do whilst you have no Kitchen?
- Could you do an outside BBQ area 1st with sink & all?
- Maybe you could have the BBQ area ready and then rip out your existing sink & fit it there within the day, presto now a hassle free kitchen renovation as you have an out door kitchen in your backyard.
I thought I had mine all planned out, as in I was to rip out the old kitchen & the Professionals would come in & fit my new kitchen. They told me maximum disruption in the kitchen by doing it that way would be 3 days.
I wish I had that in writing!
My Kitchen Renovations began by being told everything was ready to go & to rip out the old kitchen.
How things can go wrong!
- Now in taking the old kitchen out I found having timber floors the sink had been let run over probably many times & the floor under the cupboards had rotted away.
- So I thought no problem & we worked through the night replacing the floor for the new kitchen to go in the following day.
- The kitchen showed up the following day & as they started to unload it from the Truck it was coming off smashed & in pieces.
- They had had the kitchen bench top sticking straight up in the air & had gone under a low Bridge, it came down smashing everything.
- They proceeded unloading it onto the front lawn & saying they could patch it up,
I wanted nothing to do with that & demanded a new one. Three weeks later they showed up with the new one, (which I still think was mine repaired), but with the Bench top measured & cut wrong. It wasn't going to fit. It was another 2 weeks before our kitchen renovations were complete & we were able to use our kitchen.
